Instructors

Halifax Kendo Club

Terrence Clarke

HKC club president and head instructor

TJ holds the rank of Shodan and has been practicing Kendo for over six years. Being in the navy takes TJ away from Halifax frequently and for longer than we would like but when in Halifax he makes the most of his dojo time and helps drive everyone toward their own personal Kendo goals.

HKC’s instructors may not be the highest ranking in the country but with the help of other sempai and sensei across the country they have become very knowledgeable in Kihon (beginner) Kendo. Although they are the official instructors it is useful to keep in mind HKC’s club moto which is: Ware Igai Mina Shi or Everyone but myself is my teacher.

Adam Nelson

HKC Vice-president, Dojo Administrator and Instructor

Although he has only been practicing Kendo for two years, Adam quickly rose to the rank of Shodan and shows a firm grasp of Kihon Kendo. His goal is to play as a Nito (two swords) player and thus is the unofficial alternate kamae instructor for HKC.

Thomas came to HKC after many years of training in Shotokan Karate. He holds the rank of Ikkyu. Thomas’ experience with his own childrens’ previous kendo classes in Japan have lead him to become the instructor for the childrens’ class at HKC.

Thomas Trappenberg

“Kids Class” Instructor

Jim Brown

Kihon Sempai

Jim has been with HKC for little over a year but quickly rose to Ikkyu. His strong demonstration of the basics have lead him recently to rounding out the HKC instructor list.

Photo coming soon.
