Sakura Shiai

Two of our former members, Ryan and Crystal, recently had the opportunity to attend the Sakura Shiai . This is a Shiai in Japan for junior Kendoka (all under 18). Here is Ryan's message and some pics from the event.

Hey Guys, Here are some pictures of the Sakura Kendo Tournament that Crystal and I went to Yesterday (Sunday, August 24, 2003).

A brief rundown:

It was an elementary, Jr. High and High School tournament. There were 780 friken competitors... Don't believe me... Then look at the pics.

Get this... All of the players were under 18, like I said... High School.... and the ranks in the High School division went from Shodan to Sandan. Amazing. One of the Sempai was showing me where his daughter and son were playing and he said... "Thats my daughter, shes 15 and a Shodan, and here is my son, hes 16 and when he turns 17 hes going to get his sandan".

So anyway, Two of the kids in our club (Eibukan) who are san kyus and are quite the little killers placed 2nd and 3rd in their division.
